ABOUT
Cia. Nisham is a hybrid urban dance company, founded in 2020 and directed by Nia Torres , that fuses urban and contemporary dance styles with elements of physical theatre and circus. The company is distinguished by its research in movement, addressing themes such as gender-dissident (queer) identities , mental health , transformation and social provocation , with the body as the main means of expression.
They have performed in various venues in Spain, such as Madrid , Pamplona , and Barcelona , in festivals such as L'altre Festival , Festival Hop , and the Teatre Tantarantana , receiving special mentions and awards. Throughout their career, Nisham has had the support of important creative centres, such as Fabra i Coats and l' Estruch de Sabadell .
In 2022 , they toured Ecuador supported by IBERESCENA , and in 2023 they won the PICE - Mobility scholarship to perform in Bogotá, Colombia .
The company also offers workshops that combine instant creation and experimentation, generating new approaches to dance that invite constant mutation and artistic provocation.
OUR PHILOSOPHY
Our research in the movement is based on proposals that address issues about dissident sex-gender identities (queer), mental health , transformation , social provocation , and any type of question that may emerge in creative processes, placing the body as the vehicle and main driver of experimentation and materialization of these concerns.
Resulting in choreographic works , video dances and performances , which always evolve around the body in movement, generating spaces of interaction and juxtaposition of these different media, scenarios and actions are developed that invite a continuous mutation in the ways of understanding dance.
